Alanna is married to Jocko and together they have 3 boys – JJ, Max, and Henry and 1 girl – Rosie. Alanna grew up in Michigan in a Scouting family. She was involved with Girl Scouts ever since she joined as a Brownie and even was a Camp Counselor while in college. Alanna is also involved with Findlay Service League, Handbags That Help, St. Michaels Catholic Church, and is a past board member of the Children’s Museum of Findlay.

Alanna and her family are members of Pack 319, where Jocko is the Cubmaster. Jocko and Alanna originally got involved because their son, JJ, had joined the pack and needed a Den Leader. Jocko picked up the job and was asked to become Cubmaster soon after, so Alanna became JJ’s Den Leader along with Nicole. They have been co-leading for 3 years now!

I asked Alanna what she likes to think about if she has had a particularly challenging day as a volunteer. She told me, “I like to think about what is this doing for the kids? What are they getting out of it? Our kids, and other kids too!” She told me a story of when they went on a campout and the adults were tending the fire while the boys played in the woods, instead of helping-out around camp. Instead of getting mad that they weren’t helping as much as they could, she thought about the fact that those boys don’t have many opportunities to play around in the woods together, except when they are at Cub Scouts.

Alanna’s favorite events are the Pinewood Derby and the Pack Cake Bake Off because the kids get to show off what they’ve done. She also really enjoys working with the Scouts on their skits because she gets to watch the youth develop before her eyes and really show their own personalities.
