Dominic Adkins recently was named one of 12 local Jefferson Award winners as a result of an outstanding Eagle Scout project.

Dominic led an effort to build a Veterans Memorial Park in Venedocia in Allen County. He combined his efforts with community member John Lloyd, who had long envisioned the park.

Recently, The Lima News featured Dominic's work in an article written by David Trinko, and can be found CLICKING HERE

In the article, Dominic speaks of the importance volunteering has for him personally sharing, "Volunteering is more of a passion. It's more of a motivation you have. Volunteering doesn't have to be something you don't like. It can be something you love going out and doing, as long as you're going out and make the community a better place."

The Spencerville Senior also finds time to volunteer at his church Salem Presbyterian and "whenever else" he gets a chance.

Dominic worked with the local veterans to acquire a cannon used in World War II and he constructed a cement pad for the cannon to sit and placed war memorial on the pad to honor those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces

Adkins is one of the 12 local Jefferson Awards winners, and he’s one of the four youth winners. For the win, each received money to donate to a favorite cause. The Lima News will profile each of them between now and the streaming awards show the night of Thursday, April 22.
