Laura Ayers named new Program Director at Camp Lakota

The Black Swamp Area Council is excited to announce that Laura Ayers has taken the role of Program Director at Camp Lakota.  Laura has plenty of Scouting experience, starting as a Brownie in Girl Scouts, and eventually earning the Girl Scouts Gold Award, which is the highest award in Girl Scouts.  Eventually, she found her way to the Venturing Program, which led to her 2012 trek at Philmont Scout Ranch.

After that experience, Laura fell in love with the outdoors, camping, and the Scouting program.  In 2013, she began working on summer camp staff at Camp Berry.  She has worked on Camp Staff every year since, serving on staffs in the Climbing, Aquatics and Outdoor Skills areas.  One of those summers, she had the pleasure of working as a Ranger at Philmont.  She is a proud Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, where she currently serves as an Associate Lodge Adviser.

When asked why she volunteers for Scouting, she said "I do Scouting because it is my outlet and it means everything to me!  I have learned so many different things and participated in so many exciting adventures that I would not have experienced without Scouting.  All of my friends are in the Scouting program, and if I'm busy on weekends, it's usually because I'm doing something Scouting related."

Laura is thrilled for this new role in her Scouting journey.  "To me, Lakota is my home.  I walk onto camp property and am immediately filled with peace and excitement.  I love spending time there, getting to meet new people, make memories, and change lives."

Congratulations Laura!  We are excited for your future at Camp Lakota for years to come!
