What is Wood Badge

Wood Badge training began in 1919 by Baden Powell to ensure that the leaders of Scout troops were properly trained. Reï¬Â‚ecting on a century of Scouting, Wood Badge draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles and successful organizations throughout the country to present the latest in leadership theory and team development to a new generation of Scout leaders.

Purpose of Wood Badge

The primary purpose of the Wood Badge experience is simple – to strengthen Scouting in our units, districts, and Council. Every Scout deserves a well-trained leader. It provides dedicated Scouters with the concepts, tools and methods needed to be effective leaders. Wood Badge creates a structured opportunity to develop apply critical leadership skills. Leadership is a skill that is used everywhere, daily.

Attending Wood Badge will make your Scouting job easier. Attendees gain an in-depth understanding of the skills of leadership. The skills you learn will help you become a more effective leader in Scouting, your career, your family, and your community life.

Outcome

As the five-day practical portion of the program draws to a close, you will set some personal goals (a.k.a. ticket) to practice your new knowledge and skills. (You will have 18 months to complete your ticket)

By practicing your new knowledge and skills, you will become a more effective leader. In addition to your own personal growth, the Scouts you serve will benefit most from your development commitment.
