The Black Swamp Area Council’s annual Scouting for Food drive once again showcased the power of youth service, community partnership, and local generosity. After distributing thousands of door hangers last weekend, Scouts from across the region took to neighborhoods on Saturday, March 14 to collect food donations for local families in need.

This year’s collection effort emphasized diligence and follow-through, as the council regularly receives calls from residents hoping their donated food is picked up promptly. Thanks to the commitment of local packs, troops, and crews, units worked carefully to ensure every doorstep was visited and every contribution was gathered.

Once collected, donations were delivered directly to local food pantries, strengthening the connection between Scouting and the communities it serves.

Scouts will now report participation numbers, service hours, and total food collected in Scoutbook—an essential step as units compete for the council’s annual service award. The Pack or Troop that completes the most community service hours per member will earn a $2,000 campership to support attendance at one of the council’s premier camps.

A Special Thanks to Community Partners

This year's campaign was made even stronger thanks to the generosity of three valued community partners:

  • Great Scot
  • Chief’s
  • Community Markets

These organizations donated the Scouting for Food door hangers, making the outreach possible and ensuring thousands of residents were informed and able to participate. Their support exemplifies the spirit of community service that Scouting aims to inspire.

As the council tallies results, one thing is certain: Scouting for Food remains one of the most meaningful and impactful service traditions in the Black Swamp Area Council—empowering young people to live out the Scouting mission and help their neighbors in need.
