Long-time Scouter John Bishop passes

John W Bishop, age 81, was called into the presence of the Lord at 5:52 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, at his son's home with the love of his family by his side.

John was born on Aug. 9, 1942, in Lima, Ohio to the late Richard A. and Martha I. (Miller) Bishop. On June 2, 1963, he married Charlene (Kitchen) Bishop.

John is a 1962 graduate of Wapakoneta High School and retired as Detective Sergeant and Crime Scene Investigator from the Allen County Sheriff's Office and subsequently Police Chief from the Uniopolis Police Department. He spent many years as the owner/operator of Bishop's Cove Campgrounds at Indian Lake. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Jim Baker will officiate the service. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at the funeral home and from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, prior to the service.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and an FOP service at 8 p.m.
