National Jamboree

Countdown to the Jamboree

Boy Scouts of America’s flagship event is a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s a gathering of approximately 15,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff showcasing everything great about the B.S.A. and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, the Boy Scouts of America come together. The result is the National Scout Jamboree. The 2023 National Scout Jamboree will be July 19, through July 28, 2023, at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.

  • MUST have a current BSA membership with a Scouts BSA troop.
  • MUST be at least 12 years of age by the first day of the Jamboree (July 19, 2023) and has not reached their 18th birthday by the last day of the Jamboree (July 28, 2023).
  • Be approved by the unit leader and local council.
  • Participate in pre-Jamboree training experience with local council and unit leader.
  • Filed a BSA Health & Medical Record parts A, B, and C with their council within one year of attending the Jamboree.
  • Submit all registrations fees per the Black Swamp Area Council's payment schedule.

Adults (18+ year old Scouts and 21+ year old Venturers) Participation in the Jamboree

If you are an adult wanting to join the Jamboree, there is a critical need for Jamboree staff.  Jamboree staff enable a successful event for all youth participants.  Jamboree staffing needs span all activities and skills.  Adults wanting to learn more about Jamboree staff positions and to register to be a member of the staff do so by accessing the National Jamboree website, https://jamboree.scouting.org/ .Jamboree staff members pay their fees directly to National through the National Scout Jamboree website.

Registering for the 2023 National Scout Jamboree is a two-step process. You register with the Black Swamp Area Council website to pay your Jamboree fees. You apply to the National Scout Jamboree website to attend the Jamboree.  Your application/registration process is not complete until you register on the Black Swamp Area Council website and submit your application on the National website.

Youth attending the Jamboree with the Black Swamp Area Council, must register on the council website and make their Jamboree payments through the same website.

**For youth Jamboree registrations, be sure to use the youth registrant’s BSA Member ID, not a parent’s or guardian’s BSA Member ID number.**

Apply to attend the Jamboree on the National Scout Jamboree website

All interested youth and adult applicants can apply to attend the Jamboree.  Youth apply as “participants” (troop/crew members).  Adults apply as volunteer staff members.  Applicants follow the instructions posted on the National website.

For youth Jamboree applicants, be sure to use the youth applicant’s BSA Member ID, not a parent’s or guardian’s BSA Member ID number.

Scouts and Venturers from across the Black Swamp Area Council register for the Jamboree as individuals.  In September 2022, Scouts and Venturers will be allocated to troops and crews based on the Scout’s and Venturers geographic location.  This allows Scouts and Venturers from the same troop or crew and neighboring troops and crews to come together to form contingent troops and crews.

Why is the payment schedule important? Black Swamp Area Council is required to make 3 payments equaling $64,250 to National BSA for sending our contingent members (Troop & Patrol) to the National Jamboree.

What’s the “Final Payment” mean? This payment will be depended on transportation cost, potential extra touring/sightseeing plans, and other items that may be purchased for the contingent members like t-shirts, hat, back packs, water bottles, uniform patches, etc.

Will there be fundraising opportunities? This is possible, depending on the need and volunteer help to organize and conduct a successful fundraiser, with council approval.

What’s the non-refundable $250 deposit? This covers items like program material, service costs incurred by council during the planning stages and event. It also is a good-faith payment to hold the participant’s contingent spot.
