Troop 435 in New Riegel celebrates anniversary

On Nov. 20 New Riegel Troop 435 celebrated its 40th anniversary. Founded in 1981 and chartered by New Riegel Moose Lodge 872, David Mathias and Norbert Hohmen worked together to organize the Troop.

David Mathias was the Troop’s first Scoutmaster followed by Gerald Warnecke, and then Steve Cooper, who has been the Scoutmaster for the past 25 years. Since its formation there have been 52 young men who have earned Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.

On this day the Troop conducted its annual Thanksgiving Feast, only this one had a twist. All 52 Eagles were invited to celebrate the Troop’s 40 years. Of the 52 Eagle Scouts, 33 were able to attend the feast, with approximately 120 people in attendance.

During the feast Mr. Cooper handed the reigns of Scoutmaster over to Mark Faeth.

It was a great celebration with plenty of stories and reminiscing, as most old Scouters do when they get together. Here's to another 40 years.
