Extraordinary Explorers
September 2020
During these challenging times, one single connection and opportunity can make a positive difference in someone’s day. Today’s publication is about Findlay High School Graduate Claire Bishop and how the Exploring program influenced her future career choice.

Explorer looking to brighten her future in dental field

Claire Bishop the daughter of Steve and Shelley Bishop, is the product of the Doty Dental Exploring Post, where she was a member of while attending Findlay High School. Her time spent in the Doty Dental Exploring Post solidified her decision to pursue a career in dentistry and chose the university that she felt would best help her accomplish that goal.

The now Findlay High School grad just completed her first year of college at the University of Alabama, where she is a part of the Alpha Phi Omega sorority. Being in a sorority helped her find more friends on campus. Learning from her first year of college, Claire helps incoming high school students navigate their potential first year at the university.  She is in club Beat Auburn Beat Hunger and joined Be Positive Moral Team, which raises money for childhood cancer. People that are helped by Be Positive Moral Team often cannot pay all their medical bills.

While at U of A, Claire joined the pre-dental society.  The pre-dental society helps students branch out and gain knowledge through guest speakers and shadowing opportunities. The society is designed to help a pre-dental student’s journey to dental school go smoothly. The society helps connect students to others who are going through the pre-dental program and gives guidance on what courses to take.

Claire shared how it was different to come home, especially in the middle of her first year, when COVID-19 swept the country. Having to transition from in-person classes to online so quickly, was an adjustment.  With classes to resume this fall, both in-person and online, Claire is focused on continuing her studies even amidst a pandemic. A study abroad in Italy could be in the works, but whatever comes in the months ahead, this Explorer is sure to brighten all who she interacts with in the future.
