The weather has finally turned for the better (knock on wood) and you can feel the excitement in the air as kids get ready for school to be let out for the summer. Many kids spend their summers raising animals and growing crops, perhaps having a summer job, but if you’re a Scout summer means camping!

First Year Camping

So, it’s your first year at Boy Scout Camp. What do you even bring? What should you expect? If these are some of your thoughts and concerns why don’t you come to our District RoundTable, Thursday the 10th to learn about camping and the gear you should bring.

If you haven’t sign up for camp, or if you want more information about merit badges and the schedules click here.

The Findlay Scout Shop is also having a great sale on May 19th for camping gear. Come on in and let one of the staff get you set up for the summer.

Cub Scout Summer

Many Cub Packs don’t meet over the summer but did you know there are a lot of cool things you could do?

Not only could you go to summer camp but cub packs who do one pack activity a month during the summer (June, July, and August) are eligible for the National Summertime Pack Award if on average half of the members participate. This gets them a colorful den ribbon. For kids who attend all 3 activities they can earn a special pin to be worn on the right pocket flap of their uniform.

If you haven’t signed up for summer camp or if you want more information about the different camps click here.

Summer Employment Opportunities

It’s your 16th birthday and you are trying to save up money for a car, or gas. Your mom and dad keep hassling you about what you are going to do over the summer and getting serious about finding job opportunities. If this sounds like you, you should sign up to work on camp staff! Between our two camps there are many opportunities from lifeguard, to kitchen, to merit badge counselor and many more! Not only do you get paid to work at camp, but you get to live there all summer long away from home! If going to camp is one of your favorite memories or you are looking for leadership opportunities this is the place for you.

Ticks and Summer Pests

This summer ticks are going to be bad again. When planning camp outs be sure to go to your local DNR page to see the warnings about ticks in that area and what species there are. Go check out my pest article to get more tips for dealing with pests like mosquitoes and raccoons this summer.
