CAMP V-BAR PRESCRIBED BURN
A prescribed burn commenced this week at Camp V-Bar and will be continuing over the next few months. Because of a grant from the Natural Resource Conservation Service, the Council has been afforded an opportunity to conduct a prescribed burn on approximately 1,100 acres at the camp. The prescribed burn will be conducted by a licensed contractor and will be supervised by the Council foresters. While it will require a few more years of burning to achieve the overall goal, each burn will help the longleaf pine on the property regenerate and also will create a better ecological system for wildlife. You may notice charred or black areas while visiting camp. But, it will soon be replaced by grassy areas and allow visitors to see through the longleaf pine and other trees at camp. Safety will remain a priority when conducting the burns, but, in the end, the camp will be a safer place for Scouts because of a reduced risk of wildfires.
