Dear Black Swamp Area Council Scouting families,

With the start of CyberSwamp just a few days away, we wanted to remind you of all our summer program opportunities for both Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA members.

Cub Scout Day Camp

All the Cub Scout offerings are day program opportunities only. There is no overnight camping component. Registration is live for all of these options.

  • Old Sycamore Day Camp
    • ?July 16-18, 2020 (To register, click here)
    • Spiritual Center Retreat House (old Montezuma school), 6731 SR 219, Montezuma, OH
    • Earlier info shared about this camp indicated an overnight opportunity. This overnight opportunity was cancelled.
  • Berry Cub Camp
    • Week 1:  August 3-7, 2020 (To register, click here)
    • Week 2:  August 10-14, 2020 (This week will be an overflow week to week 1, if needed.)
  • Lakota Cub Camp
    • August 3-7, 2020 (To register, click here)
  • Bussing to and from camp will not be available this summer.
  • Campers with pre-existing medical concerns, especially respiratory conditions such as asthma, should have a conversation with their primary care provider and consider the level of risk before registering.
  • Social (physical) Distancing and smaller, self-contained groups (concentric circles) will be put in place. This will mean that the same campers stay with the same leaders for the duration of the camp day.  These circles will be made up of 8 scouts and 2 leaders/adults (Dens). Units that register smaller groups will be combined to allow the greatest attendance at camp.
    • All adults/leaders must be 21 years old and have taken and completed Youth Protection Training.
  • The use of face coverings for staff will be required and may also be necessary for campers upon arrival and departure and while traveling between sessions.  Once at their station, campers will not be required to wear masks.
  • A health screening, including the taking of temperatures, will be required of all attendees each day before entering camp. If a child’s temperature is above 100 degrees, he/she will not be able to attend camp that day.
  • Attendees will be required to wash hands upon arrival, at the end of each session, before lunch, after bathroom use and before leaving for the day.  Hand sanitation will be available at every location.

Family Camp

We will be offering a Family Camp on August 1-2, 2020 at Camp Lakota. This family camp is space themed. Families will be allowed to spend the night but must provide their own tents, and will be appropriately distanced from other campers. To register, click here. For questions, contact Jason Vasko at thatcampingguybsac@gmail.com.

Scouts BSA Camp

Registration for Virtual Camp Session 2 is still open until tonight at 11:59 PM (click here to register). Registration for Virtual Camp Session 3 is open until next Friday, June 26 at 11:59 PM (click here to register).

Registration for Mini Sessions is also still available. You can find more information and register here. Due to lack of registrations for sessions 5 & 6, those sessions are cancelled. Units are still able to register for sessions 1-4 at both camps.

The camp staff have been working with the health departments of Hancock, Defiance and Mercer counties throughout the COVID-19 crisis, and we have learned quite a bit about running program with safety in mind. While there are risks associated with everything, we believe that we are positioned well to provide summer camps that minimize those risks while creating a fun and meaningful experience. Our camps will follow guidelines and best practices that are being recommended to minimize risk. We understand that these are uncertain times and families will need to make decisions regarding participation based on their own situations.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of the below contacts and we will do our best to provide a prompt resolution.  Visit www.BlackSwampBSA.org to sign up for any of the summer programs.
